Our first group of cria being weaned for 2019
Here at Churchfield Alpacas we have spent the day preparing and monitoring the weaned alpacas. We have had 22 cria this season 5 of which are now 6 months old. At weaning we give the weaned cria a full MOT (toe nail trimming, Top Knots trimmed so they can see easily, faecal samples so we can administer the correct medicine) we make this a stress free process by keeping them on quarantined hard standing with shelter which makes faecal collection that much easier without contaminating their fresh pasture. The weaned cria will stay in the quarantined area for 2 weeks so we can monitor them closely to make sure they are all eating and all fit and healthy before releasing them to their new paddock. Weaning time is very stressful for us the cria and not forgetting the mums who also need monitoring closely.
